The main aim of the project leftovers Transition Bro Gwaun is to reduce carbon by preventing food from going to landfills and turn it into a product with a longer life through the use of low carbon catering. Many projects leftovers place around the UK - Foodcycle, Fare Share food bank and others - but we did not know about another project that is identical to one of us.
Most food banks deal mainly with shelf-stable food, while Cafe Transition doing dishes and preserves mainly on products that have short shelf eg fruits, vegetables, dairy, bakery and some meat. These need to process very quickly once stores and wholesalers passed them on to us and, because we are a local enterprise that collects food mostly within 4 miles, we can do this. So, what we produce more diverse and healthier than what can be cooked using only food shelf-stable. We also maintain a food is low mileage - something that can not waste food centralized systems do.

The cafe is also a resource for the community - and an example of the innovation community.
